Mauritania is characterized by a strategic location that qualifies it to play an important role in the Arab-African rapprochement. Mauritania is the link between Arab nations and Africa and human mixing in this region. This allows it to have the closest ties with the countries and people of the region. On the basis of its historical responsibility, Mauritania chose for itself an approach to its foreign by the Strengthening national independence, consolidating relations, good neighborliness, non-interference in the internal affairs of others, supporting just causes in the world, playing the role of an honest mediator in resolving disputes between brothers, settling disputes by peaceful means, and adhering to international covenants and treaties.

Mauritania also seeks to establish a more just international order, and is working on this purpose by supporting dialogue between the North and the South to reach the necessary parity between the countries of the world. Mauritania is keen to attend all international forums to express its viewpoint and support just causes in the world, and is assisted in this by joining all Arab, African and international organizations.

Mauritania plays an important role in its immediate regional surroundings, in an effort to maintain security and peace in the region, through newly established regional groupings such as the countries of the Five Sahel Group and the member states of the “Nouakchott process”. It also contributes to the international effort with the participation of units from various military and security formations in peacekeeping operations.
