From the very first moment of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania’s independence, on November 28, 1960, the United States of America was among the first countries to recognize independence of Mauritania. The bilateral relations extend between the Islamic Republic of Mauritania and the United States of America for more than 60 years, and they are described as excellent, and they have been characterized since then until today by mutual respect, and culminated in the exchange of top levels visits, where the interest of officials from both parties is focused on supporting and developing bilateral cooperation in various development fields, and unifying efforts to face global challenges.

Since the beginning of diplomatic relations in 1960, generations of Mauritanians and Americans have worked together to improve the human condition.

Mauritania looks forward to continuing to play its leading role in the Sahel region to maintain global security, spread peace, tolerance and combat extremism, as Mauritania also reinforce and strengthen its position as a strong partner of United States of America in order to enhance regional stability and permanent participation in effective peacekeeping operations within the United Nations System.

Mauritania and the United States are growing partners in business and development, and there currently American companies operating in the mining, hydrocarbons and agricultural sectors in Mauritania, with potential for renewable energy companies to invest in Mauritania.

 

The two countries are seeking to increase trade exchanges between the United States of America and Mauritania to the level of aspirations, and the Embassy of the Islamic Republic in Washington is working to communicate and provide all information to investors and interested parties in order to explore area of investment, opportunities and promising prospects in Mauritania.
