EMBASSY MISSION

On behalf of the President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania and by virtue of powers conferred to him by the constitution and in accordance with the Decree No. 391-2019/PM/MAECME/ establishing the powers of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Mauritanians abroad and the organization of the central administration of its department and in accordance with the provisions of the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, the ambassador’s main missions are:

  • Represent the Islamic Republic of Mauritania in its diplomatic constituency as well as at the international meetings to which it is invited.
  • Negotiate with the authorities of the host country.
  • Promote relations between Mauritania and countries of accreditation.
  • Promote international cooperation.
  • Promote peace and security in the world.
  • Play a strategic role to consolidate the country’s position on the international scene.     
  • Respect and ensure respect for the principles and values ​​inherited from our history, Religion, culture, and personality of our country.
  • Ensure direct and regular contact with the Mauritanian diaspora and its representatives in the country of accreditation while guaranteeing the necessary protection for Mauritian citizens in terms of security of persons, property and safeguarding their interests.
  • Make the country known, its cultural and religious influence, its potentialities and wealth and its cultural and civilizational heritage.
  • Intervene with foreign governments and international organizations to support and promote the Mauritian positions or requests.
  • Give special attention to parallel diplomacy as a driving force capable of influencing international relations by highlighting the new roles of parliament, the media, intellectuals, artists, and athletes and contributing to their participation in the festivals, forums, trade-fairs, and activities organized in the host countries.
  • Play an active role in the deanship of diplomatic groups and particularly the Arab group and the African group.
  • Strengthen the influence of Mauritania within international organizations.
  • Convert through actions and through various public declarations, the image of the rule of law guaranteeing the free exercise of democracy and respecting freedoms and human rights.
  • Sensitize the authorities, the diplomatic corps, civil society, and the media on the progress made by the country.
  • Use the press, media, and social networks, when necessary, to positively promote the image of the country while scrupulously respecting the duty of reserve to which diplomats and all officials are bound.
  • Take initiatives to engage economic partners and foreign investors.
  • Represent the country as a whole, its unity, cultural and racial diversity, and its political plurality.
  • Set up an action plan that will consider the one of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, and Mauritanians abroad.
  • Ensure, as the first person in charge, by action, example and behavior, total transparency in the management of goods, finances, and human resources of the Embassy.
  • Inform the Government on the situation and political, economic and social evolution in the countries of accreditation.
  • Transmit periodic reports and inform, if necessary, the Central Administration of the general situation and possible prospects of the country or countries of accreditation.
  • Create watch committees for any specific file and communicate its reports to the central administration.
  • Keep track of national applications and report international vacancies.
  • Search for twinning opportunities (municipalities, cities, universities, research centers, diplomatic academy).
