The Minister of Foreign Affairs chairs a meeting with heads of community offices in the United States and Canada.

Yesterday, Sunday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Mauritanians Abroad, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, chaired, via video conference, on the sidelines of his participation in the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly, a meeting with the heads of the offices of the Mauritanian community residing in the United States of America and Canada. The meeting was an opportunity during which His Excellency the Minister gave a comprehensive presentation on the major gains achieved for the Mauritanian communities, such as the issuance of a dual nationality law, sending mobile missions to civil status offices to some countries and other programs to facilitate obtaining secured national documents. His Excellency also mentioned the great interest that His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El-Ghazwani, attaches to the Mauritanian communities residing abroad, and his instructions to all missions to work towards bringing the service closer to citizens residing abroad.

His Excellency the Minister also touched on the details of all the problems presented to the communities and the ministry’s endeavor to find comprehensive solutions to them, such as facilitating registration in civil status records, the enforcement of Mauritanians residing abroad their right to vote in the upcoming elections, simplifying the procedures for their financial transfers to Mauritania and ensuring facilities to integrate their investment projects in the country, so that Mauritania can benefit more from the projects and ideas presented by members of our community residing abroad.

The meeting was attended by Her Excellency the Ambassador of Mauritania to the United States of America, Mrs. Cisse Cheikh BOIDE, and His Excellency Mr. Sidi Ould Mohamed Al-Agdaf, the permanent representative of our country to the United Nations.
