Participation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Meeting of the Atlantic Rim States

H.E. Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Merzouk, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Mauritanians living abroad, has participated in the meeting of the seventy-seventh session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, related to the countries bordering the Atlantic Ocean, at the presence of the US Secretary of State Tony Blinken.

During his intervention, the Minister affirmed the Mauritania support for the Joint Statement on Atlantic Cooperation, stressing the importance of partnership and cooperation between countries, calling for the establishment of a peaceful and prosperous Atlantic space while preserving the ocean as a healthy, sustainable, and resilient resource for future generations.

The Minister also stated that no single country can fully address cross-border problems and that the solution lies in the need for cooperation between the Atlantic Rim countries to address these challenges, such as piracy, organized crime, human trafficking, illegal migration, illegal fishing, climate change and environmental pollution that pose a threat to the safety of peoples and a threat to their livelihoods.

The meeting took place in the presence of the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania to the United States, Ms. Cisse Cheikh BOIDE, and the Ambassador and Director of Protocol H.E Hamada Ely Mahmoud.
