The President of the Republic receives a commemorative shield from the World Health Organization in recognition of his efforts in the fight against COVID-19

On Thursday, April 6th, 2023, the President of the Republic of Mauritania, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, was awarded a commemorative shield from the World Health Organization (WHO) in recognition of his personal efforts, as well as the efforts of the Mauritanian government, in combating the COVID-19 pandemic.

The WHO Resident Representative in Mauritania, Dr. Charlotte Faty Andiai, delivered the shield on behalf of the WHO Director-General during a reception at the presidential palace in Nouakchott, where she was accompanied by the Resident Representative of United Nations programs in Mauritania, Ms. Laila Peters Yahya.

During the meeting, the President praised the collective effort of the Mauritanian people in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic and commended their responsibility, patience, and commitment. Furthermore, he appreciated the efforts made by members of the Mauritanian diaspora, the private sector, and the great sacrifices made by our medical teams and their professionalism, perseverance and perseverance.
