Africa Day in Washington.

Today, May 30, 2025, the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania participated in Africa Day in Washington, D.C. The Mauritanian delegation was headed by the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania to Washington, Ms. Sissa Mint Cheikh Ould Beida. The Mauritanian delegation included the Ambassador, advisors, and local embassy staff. This annual occasion was celebrated at the African Union headquarters in Washington, D.C. Our participation featured a variety of Mauritanian dishes and Mauritanian heritage. Most African countries also participated by showcasing their own dishes and cultural heritage. The morning activities commemorating Africa Day featured a series of workshops. The workshops focused on topics related to education, technological development, and scientific research. Discussions focused on how to advance these core interests in cooperation with the United States. The workshops focused on the following topics:
- Cooperation between Africa and the United States in the field of higher education, science, and technology
- Harnessing science and technology for diplomacy
- African communities in the United States: opportunities and challenges.
